The truffle: all the benefits of this precious treasure of the earth

The truffle is much more than a masterpiece of nature intended for cooking. In fact, it boasts several beneficial effects on the human organism.

The truffle is a precious underground mushroom that owes its price to the known difficulties of harvesting. However, it is not just a natural masterpiece intended for cooking, but boasts several beneficial effects on the body. This is because it has attributes that are good for health. It is a healthy food which, with the due exceptions, can be counted in all respects among healthy food. Although there are a number of differences between the various types, the nutritional characteristics remain the same. We are talking about a low-fat food, healthy and genuine food. We are talking overall about an Italian product, whose woodland vegetation guarantees its proliferation.

Truffles characteristics

The truffle grows only in certain periods of the year and in specific locations. Its harvesting is complicated, so much so that the high prices make it unsuitable to appear every day on the Italian table. As mentioned, it has several qualities. Here are the most important:

  • It is an anti-aging food, very rich in antioxidants. This is because it absorbs minerals and nutrients from the soil that help prevent aging and fight free radicals.
  • It is thin and good for the diet. It does not contain cholesterol and its caloric intake is negligible, just 30 calories per 100 g or so.
  • If used on the skin it can even lighten skin spots, thanks to the action of pigments that counteract melatonin.
  • It has antibacterial attributes.
  • It is a high protein
  • Thanks to the high presence of minerals and being rich in digestive enzymes, truffles are good for digestion.
  • It is good for bones and teeth, thanks to the high amount of calcium.
  • It is good for the kidneys, thanks to the stimulating action of potassium, present in good quantities within the truffle.
  • Thanks to its high content of magnesium, potassium and other mineral salts, it is able to help the body avoid lapses in performance during sports.

The molecule of well-being

Biomedical studies recently conducted reveal how the truffle possesses a substance capable of giving well-being and regulating mood. This is anandamide. It is an endocannabinoid that stimulates the production of melanin, which in turn generates positive sensations. The truffle lacks other substances on which anandamide should have acted to produce melanin. This means that the fungus does not need it for itself, but uses it to attract animals, so that they unearth it and spread the spores necessary for its spread.
